"As an artist, one of the greatest honors is to be allowed into the lives and stories of those that I meet along the way. I am particularly interested in showing human connection and the value of community, and to capture the stories of people that have the courage to overcome, to create a new path, and to bring hope and tenderness into the world. The relationships formed and the photographs I have taken through this project shown at River and Rail have been some of the most rewarding of my career. My goal in this body of work was to capture these faces as members of our family, valued citizens of our city, and integral to the life and vitality of our community." Katie Norrell is a photographer, storyteller, and communications professional who has recently worked in Knoxville and Nashville but photographed subjects all over the world. She is currently the Director of Communications at First Presbyterian Church.
